Is Salvation Necessary??

Updated: Aug 13, 2023

Most Christians don't know how to share their faith with non-believers. They tell the person they're talking to that they "need to be saved". However, most Christians don't know what they are saved from, so they can't really answer that question.

If you ask most Christians these days what they are saved from you will get a variety of answers: to take away my sins (not true); to go to heaven (not the primary thing): to stay out of hell (also not the primary thing); to have an easy life (not true); and other things that don't get to the heart of the issue.

Many times, Christians are stumped when they are witnessing, when the person they are talking to says something like: well, I'm a good person. I don't need to be saved from anything. Especially problematic is when Christians are trying to share with atheists. Either they don't know what to say or their explanation is so weak, even I wouldn't want to believe in God. That is why the sorry state of the decline in Christianity is at an all-time high.

Is salvation necessary? Absolutely! But, saved from what, exactly?

The answer goes all the way back to the garden of Eden. When God created Adam He gave Adam one command. He said, paraphrasing, don't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil or you will surely die. 'Surely die' are interesting words. The Hebrew words are: תָּמֽוּת מ֥וֹת (mos tamus). Mos is the Hebrew word for 'die'. So when god told Adam he would 'surely die' almost all bibles translate this incorrectly. The actual meaning of the two words are 'die and die'. To read Gen 2:17 in context it would say: 'for in the day that you eat from it you will die and die'. When we read it that way, the verse is very confusing. So lets break it down.

What did God mean when He told Adam he would die and die? When God created Adam, He created Adam to be like God in many ways. One of those ways was that he was made in God's image and likeness. As God is a tri-partite being (Father, Jesus, and Holy Ghost), man also is a tri-partite being (spirit, soul, and body). With man's body he contacts the physical or natural realm; with man's soul, he contacts the mental and emotional realm; and, with man's spirit, he contacts the Spiritual realm - the place where God dwells. As a result, when Adam was created, he was created alive unto God. In other words, he had the life of God abiding on the inside of him.

When the serpent tempted Eve and Adam, with her, ate the fruit. When he did, the life of God in his spirit was snuffed out and a condition called SIN lodged in his spirit. In other words, he died spiritually. That was the first 'die'. Many hundreds of years later, he died physically. That was the second 'die'. (Why he, and the early descendants of his lived so long will be the subject of a future blog post).

So, here is the answer to the 'good person', the atheist, and everyone else who is not a believer in Jesus. People are not 'sinners' because they commit sins; People commit sins because they ARE sinners. You see, committing sins will never keep anyone out of the Kingdom of Heaven. In 2nd Corinthians 5:17 - 21 we are told that God is not mad at any one person anymore. When we stand before the Judgement Seat of God, the only question that will be asked of us is, "what did you do with Jesus?" if it is found that a person did not accept the sacrifice of Jesus to take away the SIN condition, only then will that person be judged by what he did or did not do. Anyone who has put there trust in Jesus, is redeemed (or saved) from eternal death.

In future blog posts we'll have a lot more to say about these topics. For now, know this, believing in Jesus will make you alive again unto God (just as Adam was before he ate the fruit) and spared the judgement mankind deserves. So my question to you, dear reader, is: will you say yes to Jesus, be rid of the condition called SIN, and have an eternal home with your God? Alll you have to do is call upon Jesus's name. I pray you will do so today!

Cynthia, thank you so much for your kind words. If believers would grasp this truth it makes it easy to share your faith: it is not what you do or not do; rather, it is who you are. Share this truth with others.

blessings,

Barry
